Celebrate the history and traditions of this Latin American holiday with a colorful sugar skull decorating workshop.  Learn how to use (vegan) royal icing, gum paste, and a variety of craft materials to create unique and original sugar skull art that can be preserved and used as a decoration for many seasons to come.  Registration details will be posted soon.

Pacific Beach Taylor Branch Library, All About Apples After sampling a variety of baking and snacking apples we veganized a traditional apple crisp recipe and then combined a giant bowl of fresh greens with apple slices, vegan cheddar, nuts and a balsamic fig dressing. Point Loma Library, Back to School Recipes In this culinary lab we learned about the differentvarieties of tofu and how tofu can be used as a substitute for chicken. Recipes included a Chick’n tasting session and Chick’n Caesar Wrap, Lavash pinwheel sandwiches made with vegan mayo (we tried Follow Your Heart’s pesto mayo) and a dessert of homemade brownies…a traditional recipe veganized with vegan butter and tofu used as an egg substitute.  The result, excellent…don’t ask, don’t tell…vegan brownies are just and good and better!  Lavash Pinwheels, Grilled Chick’n Caesar Wrap, Brownies

 

Pacific Beach Taylor Branch Library, Vegan Seafood: Sponsored by Grocery Outlet, we had an abundant supply of organic produce and ingredients for delicious Hawaiian Poke Bowls, made with the catch of the day…watermelon. Point Loma Library, Stay Cool Wraps and Mock Tuna Salad:  A summer sandwich making celebration thanks to Baron’s Market and Jensen’s Foods. Allied Gardens Library, The Art of Enchiladas: Make red enchiladas filled with chopped veggies, tricolor quinoa, black beans, corn, and vegan pepper jack cheese. Smothered with red enchilada sauce and served on a bed of sliced lettuce with a drizzle of  white sauce, chopped fresh cilantro, sliced green onions and black olives. Red Enchiladas
